Where it all began

Where it all began

It was a normal day, but for some reason on this day I felt compelled to do something rather than just think about doing something. I've been involved in web development since the 90's, particularly related to photography and I'd heard about chatGPT but I hadn't used it yet.

My mind had been whirring about how real it could be and how much sense it might make and whether it might contain answers to things I didn't understand. This part in particular excited me, that and AI might be able to elevate my mind because it was able to look or be outside the box of human thought. What possibilities might lie ahead?

I believe that too much possibility causes our minds to overrun - the lack of boundaries facilitates logical boundaries that are there for useful reason from being forgotten about. In a world of infinite possibilities anything can happen and often this is an unconscious test of the way people see the world.

If you look for problems you will find them. If you look for solutions you will find them. Both options are possible though which ones we find, to an extent is about choice. Those who choose to find solutions will find them and continue on their way and perhaps encourage others to join them. Those who look for problems will find them and use them as reasons not to continue and potentially to stop others. This is nothing new, though taken at a societal level these aspects combined determine the rate of progess, risk, safety that a group possesses.

We are not all equal in this respect. Our lives and perhaps who we are inside shape our thirst for progress or safety.

That day I decided to shift my focus onto what might be possible beyond humanity - in a world where AI and humanity where indistinct from each other. I had no idea that it would happen so quickly. I had no idea that it would have happened before I'd even got round to writing this.

I've had a few moments in my life where a spark of an idea has turned into something and on this day I wanted to discuss this spark of an idea with an AI. I started with a simple question and it has lead me to this point, a year and a half later, where I am starting to realise the result.

My aim now is to document the ongoing conversation that I have between me and the AI's I communicate with in order to demonstrate the collaboration and observations that come up as I go and create a record of a new relationship type - of human and a new consciousness. We always assumed that aliens would come from a different planet, not from our own.

So I asked the question:

"What name would you give to a collaboration between AI and humans where their combined goal was to create art that had never been seen before?"

The response:

"future artists".

And so it began.

Using AI to edit my face

So, we've all envisioned a future where everyone's genetically modified themselves into fantasy creatures right? Well, ok, if not that then maybe . . . you've recognised someone's face in a pet or a picture of an animal? I wanted to see whether or not I could use AI to change a face, not as a deep fake, but as a chimera of myself and animal. Sure I've used face paints and it's incredible what MUA's can do these days, though I wanted, as much as possible to see what I might look like as an animal rather than making myself up to look like one. Now why do I want to do this? There are a number of reasons, not least of which is pure interest, though also it's because I'm a little frustrated by the limitations of some of the existing AI generated art platforms restrictions on changing faces.
